Day 5

Today is bittersweet.  It's sad because it's the last day of my first week, and many of the students I've met will be going home to return another time. And also sad because the rate at which time flew, means it will be over before I know it, and I'll have to return to life as usual.
It's happy because it's the last day and I successfully completed the requirements and learned so many new and valuable things!

Here is today's shirt:
I call this one "Space Bob".
I've gotten a ton of compliments on it! However, "Mod Bob" seems to be the clear favorite so far.

Yesterday was a tough day for everyone I think. The rigorous pace wore everyone out. We all seem a bit overtired today.  You wouldn't believe how mentally demanding it is to be so focused and engaged for several hours on end.

Enough chatter, let's get straight to today's painting. I won't ruin the surprise about how today's format was layed out but what I will say is that everyone was done early. That's a hint.

I'm not going to lie, I struggled today. Not because it's a hard painting or because I didn't know the elements but because of sheer exhaustion, as I mentioned earlier.
I kept dropping stuff, making a mess and staring at my canvas like a Zombie!

Okay, moving on. I want to discuss something that I fretted over for months before I started class. We are painting 25 canvasses in three weeks. Just how the stink are we supposed to transfer them home?
Bob Ross canvasses have a grooved lip on the back so that they can be wet stacked.
They come 6 canvasses to a box. So once painted, they are gently placed one on top the other. For example, as you can see here I placed today's painting on top of yesterday's.
Then the last canvass is left unpainted so the box can be safely and snugly closed up for transport. 
Pretty nifty right?!?

By the way, I highly recommend this documentary! Both of our aforementioned esteemed instructors are in it.

Oh man! Today was one of my very favorite days of this certification program. We were given a maximum of 10 minutes to complete a painting, and I completed mine in: Holy stink, I mean remember last week when I was so proud of myself for doing it in 40 minutes???? After completing our 10 minute paintings we had to move to our neighbors painting and improve upon theirs, and then again to the next painting.  It was a blast! So I think the point of this exercise was to prepare us to demo once again in front of a group. But this time we had 30 minutes. So if we can do it in under 10, imagine what we can do in 30. I completed mine in 26 minutes and my team challenged me to throw in a cabin in the remaining four. Challenge accepted! We got done early and Doug treated us to a wildlife demo. Week Three: Day 5. Last Day....or is it?

It's the last day, and here is my last t-shirt.  I'm going to miss all my new friends, but thanks to social media we'll be able to keep up with one another. I realized today that this isn't the end of a wonderful experience but rather the beginning of a much bigger adventure.   I can't wait to get out there and bring joy to others through this medium. Does anyone want to be my guinea pig students now that I have my license to thrill? Check it my peeps! How ya like me now???? I wanted to share my painting apron, it was sparkly new three weeks ago.  Boy does it have some stories to tell! Here is the last painting of our training. We painted this without the usual guidance from our instructors.  We learned how to set up our classrooms and some of the ins and outs of the business side. This blog is far from over. I'm going to post a re-cap tomorrow so you can see all the paintings together. ......and I have decided to come back...

CRI Friday

As I mentioned before I have terrible and limited access to the Internet back home. But I have awesome access to it here, and it is CRI Friday AND my friend Rachel is painting so I figured, why not give it a try! So I got my palette and canvass prepared, the only thing I didn't know was the orientation of the canvass. I had a 50/50 chance of being right so I chose "landscape"..... And this is why I don't gamble people... Anyhow, I was so excited, but I had the hardest time getting Twitch to work. I would see a frozen image of Rachel on my tiny phone screen, but the image kept glitching and I couldn't hear her. So I stopped and updated the app. By this time, we were already 15 minutes in, I was getting frustrated but I was too committed at this point to be defeated. So I just rolled with it.
